Example of an email which attracted a major global investor to a small company
|
... By the way, we have been impressed by the quick feedback we got on this problem. Who owns the company? Is it a listed company??
Dear Saul, Listed company? I wish! No, it's a small, somewhat altruistic (we even have a bike for dwarfs), lean operation owned by the two Scholz brothers. 25 people last year, now suddenly 42, thanks to our new 5-second folder, the tikit, and a handful of angel customer investors. Bit of history... www.bikefriday.com/history Many a niche manufacturer like Bike Friday has gone to the wall, but two things seem to float our boat: 1. Rabidly loyal customers who refuse to let the company die, because what we make *works*, and 2. Ridiculously attentive customer service, because that's what keeps them rabid when things er, don't quite work, as you have experienced recently. Rather than vilify us, they feed back so we can fix it on the next production cycle (there are 8 cycles per day). And then they buy more bikes. How many do you and your friends have? Of course, something has to give. Most of us get by on little more than the average American wage, but our adventurous and *interesting* customers sucker us into bending over backwards for them and vice versa. A unique relationship for sure. Probably why we came out of nowhere to win that Saatchi & Saatchi Future Beyond Brands Lovemarks poll, thanks to a particularly rabid customer www.bikefriday.com/lovemarks-winner So now you know why I watch over you with bated Blackberry. And by living 99% of my life on the road with customers, I can understand what floats *their* boats and feed back immediately. Ok, it means I also save rent money. You can tour our Frankensteinian operation here www.bikefriday.com/factorytour Sorry for the long answer, you inspired me to think about why we maintain the rage. If you can pass our name along to anyone who might like to help us grow, let me know. I want to do all I can to help get BF to the tipping point so they can stay doing what they do so well. I have to get out from under the covers now where I have been typing this email. I should get a life! Hope our tire treads will cross sometime soon. It would make a great story. Thanks for listening.
