This little guy was one of the host family who prepared our lunch in Ponte Calcara. Cyclist is welcomed into a local's outdoor dining room, Ponte Calcara. Halfway point between the Mediterranean and the Adriatic. Bit like the Continental Divide! We like these 8% downhills ... The medieval town of Gubbio is ready for the Annual Festival of the Candles or La Festa dei Ceri.

Storing the bikes at Palazzo Ducale hotel. Any more room at the Inn for a tired bicycle? The Fiesta starts at 5pm on the Friday. The giant bell is rung by some guys pushing it with their feet. Gubbio is famous for ceramics.

The evening's meal was at a sumptuous local restaurant called Taverna de Lupe. On the walls are painted ceramic plates with different crests on them. Now here's something to impress your friends with - green salad with fruit and a dressing of sorts. The Italians are as serious about wine as they are about olive oil and Alfa Romeos. Veal and veggies.
