Durian stinks to high heaven but the flesh is surprisingly palatable - the Puna folks adore it. Ann's friends Rick and Iris live on the coast, where they have a whole different - and more difficult project growing things near the sea. They don't let that stop them! Jackfruit - where Juicy Fruit gun got it's flavor inspiration from. Anne grows macadamia nuts. They need to be dried so they're not soggy. Ann's water catchment system.

A salvaged filter from a clothes dryer strains the catchment water. Anne's water catcher is a found washing machine drum. Ann Kobsa with her beloved vanilla crop. Flowers have to be hand pollinated but ready-for-the recipe pods can fetch up to $4 each. Now if she could just breed a Chunky Monkey pod ... A way-too-interesting flower. Reminds me of a lace doily. The prized, putrid Durian - the local's most coveted fruit. Ann has a 20-year old tree that regularly knocks itself - hence, Ann is mucho loved by all.

An air potato trying to escape ... Anne's coconut-eating ducks! Cacao beans - chocolate! Ann's land can be pretty as a picture as well as productive and progressive - just like Ann!. My nanna had a dress with this very pattern I am sure....
